Child Visa

Citizenship by Descent

Children born outside Australia may be eligible for Australian Citizenship by Descent if at least one parent was an Australian citizen at the time of the child’s birth.

Once citizenship by descent is granted, the child enjoys the same rights and privileges as any other Australian citizen, including the right to live, study, and work in Australia and apply for an Australian passport.

Parents must provide evidence of their Australian citizenship and the child’s identity and birth details when applying.

Child Visa

The Child Visa allows a child to travel to or remain in Australia to live with their parent who is an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or an eligible New Zealand citizen.
This visa provides children born overseas or living apart from their parents the opportunity to reunite with their family in Australia.
There are different types of child visas depending on the child’s location and circumstances, including options for children applying inside or outside Australia, adopted children, and dependent children of temporary partner visa holders.
